Notes From The Field
Iceland
Iceland is a feast of true delights for the adventurous photographer, with its volcanoes and glaciers that are remnants of a culture embedded with the beliefs and lifestyles of Viking ancestors. This image captures the majesty of Iceland's uninhabited highlands, showing a distant volcanic caldera surrounded by swirling golden clouds. Also visible are meandering rivers filled with recently melted glacial water, moss-covered volcanic lava fields, and glacial moraines in hues of red and gold. The untouched beauty of this land, where time seems to stand still, is truly breathtaking.
Yosemite
Returning to my old stomping grounds, Yosemite, was truly amazing. With massive uplifts of granitic grandiosity and cascading waterfalls, it's one of the most beautiful places in our country. One can explore the vast beauty of this natural wonder and never get tired of its unending magnificence. This image was captured as the sun was setting, backlighting the glowing golden leaves of cottonwoods and aspen surrounded by the towering majesty of El Capitan and some of its nearby brethren. Truly incredible!
